How many questions are on the Ontario G1 knowledge test?
The Ontario G1 knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions in total: 20 questions on road signs and 20 questions on rules of the road. You must pass both sections separately.
What score do you need to pass the G1 test?
You need at least 16 out of 20 correct in each section to pass (80% per section). You must pass both the road signs section and the rules of the road section. If you fail one section, you fail the entire test even if you passed the other.
What topics are covered on the G1 knowledge test?
The G1 test covers two main areas. Road signs: regulatory signs (stop, yield, speed limits), warning signs, informational signs, and pavement markings. Rules of the road: right-of-way, following distance, speed limits, alcohol and drug impairment, emergency vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and highway driving.
How long does the G1 test take?
Most people complete the G1 knowledge test in 20 to 30 minutes. There is no time limit on the test, so you can take as long as you need to read and answer each question carefully.
How much does the G1 test cost in Ontario?
The G1 knowledge test fee is approximately $159.75 at a DriveTest centre. This fee covers your licence for five years. Check drivetest.ca for the most current pricing.
What ID do I need to bring to the G1 test?
You need at least one piece of valid identification proving your legal name, date of birth, and signature. Acceptable primary ID includes a Canadian passport, Canadian birth certificate, Canadian citizenship card, or permanent resident card. You must be at least 16 years old.
What are the restrictions on a G1 licence?
With a G1 licence you must be accompanied by a fully licensed driver (held a G licence for 4 or more years) in the front passenger seat. You cannot drive between midnight and 5 a.m., on 400-series highways, or on high-speed expressways (unless with a licensed driving instructor). Blood alcohol concentration must be 0.00. No handheld devices permitted.
Can I take the G1 test online?
No. The official Ontario G1 knowledge test must be taken in person at a DriveTest centre. Practice tests like this one are available online to help you prepare, but the official MTO test requires in-person attendance.
