How Much Does the G Road Test Cost in Ontario?

As of 2026, the MTO-mandated fee for the G road test is $91.25, paid to DriveTest Canada when booking. This fee applies at all DriveTest centres in Ontario. The fee is subject to change by the MTO; always confirm the current amount when booking at drivetest.ca.

The $91.25 covers the road test only: the examiner's time, the test route, and the licence upgrade processing if you pass. It does not include the cost of your vehicle, fuel, vehicle insurance, any lessons leading up to the test, or the initial licensing fee from when you first got your G1.

According to DriveTest Ontario, if you cancel your G road test appointment with at least 48 hours notice, DriveTest will refund your fee or allow you to reschedule at no extra charge. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice and no-shows result in the full $91.25 being forfeited. Book when you are confident you are ready, and reschedule early if plans change.

You must bring a roadworthy vehicle for the G test, or use a road test escort service. If using your own vehicle, it must have functioning lights, signals, mirrors, wipers, and brakes, and your insurance must be valid. Using a driving school car through an escort service adds cost but eliminates vehicle-related stress and often includes a warm-up lesson to settle nerves.

Most drivers budget for a few preparation lessons in addition to the $91.25 test fee. Drivers who completed their G2 through professional training often need only two to four lessons focused on highway and advanced manoeuvres.
