What Happens If You Cancel a Road Test Last Minute in Ontario?

If you cancel your Ontario road test with less than 48 hours notice, you forfeit your road test fee. DriveTest does not issue refunds for late cancellations or no-shows. You must pay the full road test fee again when you rebook your next appointment.

Key Facts

  • Medical emergency: contact DriveTest immediately with documentation
  • Vehicle breakdown: contact the centre as soon as possible
  • Family emergency: explain the situation to the centre directly
  • Weather concern: this does not qualify as an exception; see the weather policy

The 48-Hour Rule: What It Means

DriveTest requires a minimum of 48 hours advance notice to cancel or reschedule a road test appointment. If you cancel with more than 48 hours remaining, your fee is retained as a credit and applied to your next booking. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or if you simply do not show up, you forfeit your road test fee entirely.

What You Lose and What You Need to Do Next

A forfeited road test fee is not refunded and cannot be transferred. The specific fees that are forfeited are the road test booking fee for your test type: approximately $53.75 for a G2 test rebook and approximately $91.25 for a G road test. After forfeiting, you must pay the full fee again when booking your next appointment through drivetest.ca or by phone.

Are There Any Exceptions?

DriveTest does not publish a formal hardship or emergency exception policy. However, if you experienced a medical emergency or another exceptional circumstance, you can contact DriveTest directly or visit the centre to explain the situation. Some candidates have reported success in getting a credit applied, but this is at the discretion of DriveTest management and is not guaranteed.

How to Avoid Losing Your Fee

The simplest protection is to cancel as soon as you know you cannot make your appointment. Check your email confirmation for the exact appointment time and set a calendar reminder. If you are unsure whether you can make it, cancel early and rebook rather than waiting and risking the fee. Remember the 48-hour cutoff counts from your scheduled test time, not the calendar day before.
